Mrs. Walker began her journey as an educator in college, earning a BA in Elementary Education from Arizona State University. She then earned an MA in Educational Administration and Supervision, and a Principal Certification, both from Arizona State University as well. Mrs. Walker has held positions as an Elementary School Teacher, Instructional Coach, and Vice Principal. She also spent ten years working for charter school organizations in a variety of capacities.
Upon joining the BASIS Charter Schools network, Mrs. Walker served as Director of Lower School Program at BASIS Scottsdale. She then became Director of Students Affairs at BASIS Scottsdale Primary East before transitioning into her current role as Head of School. Throughout her career, Mrs. Walker has worked with a wide range of students across the Valley, and is honored to be leading a school dedicated to providing students with an exceptional education. She also highly values partnering with families and the community, and believes it is an essential part of education.
Mrs. Walker is confident that all BASIS Charter School students can thrive and be successful when presented with high academic expectations and a positive learning environment.
Mr. McElwain joined BASIS Curriculum Schools in January of 2019 as the Head of Operations for BASIS Scottsdale Primary East. His background is in business and operations management with over fifteen years in the financial industry. He joined BASIS Curriculum Schools after serving the residents of Arizona for six years as the Senior Financial Enterprise Regulator at the Arizona Department of Financial Institutions. In his role as the Senior Regulator and state representative in the Financial Services Industry he ensured the confidence of the state’s economic health and the integrity of financial enterprises operating in Arizona.
Mr. McElwain graduated from the University of California, Irvine in 2003 with a degree in Business. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 2001, serving our nation until 2011, and is a Veteran of both Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. During his time in the Marine Corps, Mr. McElwain completed his Master’s degree in Financial Management and briefly was a teacher of book keeping and accounting at a vocational school in Lake Forrest, California at night while still on active duty. Mr. McElwain moved to Arizona in 2006 after leaving active duty and began working as the Accounts Receivables Manager for a local utility company before being involuntarily recalled to active duty in 2007 where he was sent to Djibouti, Africa to assist in the command and manage operations for the Camp Lemonier Joint Anti- Terrorism base and the security operations for the U.S. Embassy in Djibouti. He returned taking both his education and military experience to successfully manage and regulate businesses and financial enterprises. Mr. McElwain has a long record of service and is proud to serve the families of BASIS Charter Schools.
A native of France, Mrs. Godart earned her MA in Electrical Engineering from INSA Toulouse. She moved to the United States over twenty years ago, joining ABB in Raleigh, North Carolina as a Product Manager. After working as an electrical engineer for over ten years, Mrs. Godart decided to change career paths and become an educator. She earned several teaching certifications from the American Montessori Society and began teaching young children, fostering a love of learning early in their education. In addition to her teaching responsibilities, Mrs. Godart served as a Curriculum Director, mentoring teachers and aligning syllabi to Common Core Standards.
After spending twelve years teaching grades K–3 at both private and charter Montessori schools in Washington and Arizona, Mrs. Godart joined the BASIS Charter Schools network. She served as Dean of Students at BASIS Scottsdale Primary East before transitioning to her current role as Director of Student Affairs. Mrs. Godart is committed to guiding students to reach the highest academic and behavioral standards, while developing their independence, self-confidence, and sense of responsibility.
Ms. McGarvey has held a variety of positions throughout the BASIS Charter Schools network. She started out as a student teacher at BASIS Oro Valley, then became a Front Office Coordinator and Auxiliary Programs Coordinator at BASIS Chandler Primary South. After serving at BASIS Chandler Primary South, she became Director of Academic Programs at BASIS Phoenix South Primary, and is now Director of Academic Programs at BASIS Scottsdale Primary East. Ms. McGarvey completed her education at Arizona State University with a BA in Spanish.
