Abby McCarty has been with BASIS Prescott since it opened in 2014. Since then she has been a teacher, Dean, and is currently Head of School. Mrs. McCarty has been a part of the Prescott community many years.
Her goal is to keep BASIS Prescott moving in a positive direction and to ensure that students, families, staff, and community benefit from the BASIS Curriculum model for years to come. She believes that BASIS Prescott prepares students for their future and opens a realm of possibility through learning. Mrs. McCarty holds a BS in Ecology and Environmental Biology and a MEd in Curriculum and Instruction.
Marnia Bartelson, the Head of Operations at BASIS Prescott, served previously as Operations Director and Teaching Fellow at BASIS Scottsdale. Prior to joining BASIS Charter Schools, she worked in the Environmental, Health, and Safety division for a petroleum company in the Bakken fields of North Dakota. Ms. Bartelson earned her BA in Liberal Arts and Science from Utah State University and her JD from the University of North Dakota School of Law.
Ms. Leslee Briggs joined BASIS Charter Schools in 2016 as a Biology and Environmental Science Teacher at BASIS Goodyear. While in Goodyear, she also served as an Instructional Coach and Teacher Mentor before joining BASIS Prescott in January 2021.
Ms. Briggs earned her bachelor’s degree in General Business and Agriculture Education from the University of Arizona, and her master’s degree in Educational Technology from Northern Arizona University. In addition to her teaching career, she has worked as an executive in human resources.
Being a mentor to teachers has provided her with the greatest rewards and she looks forward to her role as Director of Academic Programs at BASIS Prescott. The skills that she has acquired over her 30-year career will help to move both students and teachers to higher levels of achievement and to make a positive impact on the entire BASIS Prescott community.
Diane Smith joined BASIS Prescott in 2016 as a teaching fellow focusing on academic support for students in grades 7–12. In 2017, she accepted the College Guidance Coordinator position, and, subsequently, added Senior Project Coordinator in 2018. In 2020, she also became a seventh grade Logic teacher, happily adding to her experience with younger students. All of the positions and roles Mrs. Smith has experienced at BASIS Prescott as well as her life experiences have prepared her for her role as Director of Upper School Programs. Although she will miss the classroom, she is pleased and excited to take on this new role and continue supporting BASIS Prescott students, families, staff, and faculty.
Mrs. Smith earned her bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of California, Riverside.
Catherine Weissberg joined BASIS Prescott in the 2014 as an English and Honors Language teacher. During her tenure at BASIS Prescott, Mrs. Weissberg has also worked as a primary art teacher, grade 3 Learning Expert Teacher, and Dean of Students.
She earned her bachelor’s degree in English, with a concentration in journalism, from The University of Delaware in Newark, DE. After a brief period of working in the New York City publishing industry, Mrs. Weissberg taught English as a Foreign Language (EFL) to K–12 students in Daegu, South Korea for two years.
To enhance her leadership competencies, Mrs. Weissberg is currently earning her master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Northern Arizona University. She is excited to cultivate new relationships and experience new learning opportunities as the Director of Student Affairs.
