Mrs. Bruce earned her BA in Elementary Education, with an emphasis on second language learners, from Arizona State University. She taught primary students in the Cartwright School District for several years before taking a break to raise her children— she still stayed very much involved during that time by either subbing or coaching. Then, Mrs. Bruce decided to take a leap of faith and live out her long-term dream of opening her own clothing boutique. She eventually sold the boutique and went on to manage a pediatric dental office. Soon, she was promoted to the corporate level and became the Regional Trainer for Arizona and Nevada, using her love of teaching and learning in a completely different profession. Ultimately, Mrs. Bruce found her way back to the education world, where she feels most at home. She is happy to be at BASIS Peoria Primary and grateful for the all the wonderful relationships she has built with the students, families, and staff over the years.
Prior to joining BASIS Peoria Primary, Steve spent 18 years in the field of education—including 10 years in administrative coordination and management positions. His broad range of experience spans primary grades all the way through university education. Recently, he launched and managed a successful international primary Saturday school program in Kobe, Japan.
Steve has an MA in Asian Studies and an MBA from UCLA, as well as his certification.
Mrs. Duncan is thrilled to be joining the network of BASIS Curriculum Schools this year. After earning her BA in Business Computer Information Systems at the University of North Texas, she landed a position at NASA‘s Stennis Space Center. She then worked on computer systems for Phelps Dodge, supporting various mines, the El Paso Refinery, and an Executive Information System, and eventually managing a group of programmers.
As a parent volunteer, Mrs. Duncan realized education was where she wanted to be and returned to school, earning a BA in Elementary Education at Arizona State University. She taught for 10 years in grades 2 and 4 before becoming an instructional coach, and served as an administrator for auxiliary programs. She is nationally board certified in Literacy—Reading and Language Arts. She is looking forward to a fantastic year of learning and growth!
