Monika Mendoza is the Head of School for BASIS Oro Valley. She has 16 years of experience in education as a teacher and an administrator. Her experience spans the halls of college prep and drop-out recovery. She holds a MEd with an emphasis in Educational Leadership from Northern Arizona University, a BA in Education from the University of Arizona, and an Arizona Principal Certification. Ms. Mendoza joined BASIS Oro Valley in 2014, serving for two years as the Dean of Students for grades 6–12, before becoming the Director of Academic Programs. Ms. Mendoza is excited to lead BASIS Oro Valley as the Head of School and will continue to serve as a liaison for parents, students, and teachers.
LaShawn Shorbe is the Head of Operations for grades 6–12 at BASIS Oro Valley. She joined BASIS Curriculum Schools as a Director of Operations in 2016 and is also a proud BASIS Charter School parent. Before joining the BASIS Charter School staff, she enjoyed a career in human resources and served as a retail manager. Mrs. Shorbe holds an MBA from Eller College at the University of Arizona and is a member of the Society of Human Resource Managers. On an average day, she walks more than 10,000 steps though the hallways of our campus while ensuring that our teachers and students have everything they need for a successful day at school.
Leigh Preuss earned her BFA from the University of Arizona and has been at BASIS Oro Valley since 2010. Before serving as the Director of Student Affairs, she taught for five years and also served as the Dean of Students for two years. She was the mentor for the other deans in the BASIS Curriculum Schools network and is currently the mentor for the other Directors of Student Affairs. Ms. Preuss enjoys building strong relationships with the staff, families, and the students at BASIS Oro Valley.
Cameron Louis is the Director of Academic Programs for grades 6–12 at BASIS Oro Valley. Previously, Mr. Louis served as AP Government & Politics and World History teacher for BASIS Oro Valley and as Director of Student Affairs from 2016–18. He was also a director and Head of School for BASIS DC and helped recruit new teachers to the network of BASIS Curriculum Schools as Manager of Teacher Recruitment. Before joining BASIS Curriculum Schools, Mr. Louis taught English and History in Chicago for six years and served two schools as a Varsity Basketball Coach. He holds a BA in English Education from Michigan State University, an MEd in Educational Leadership from Central Michigan University, and an MEd in Teaching Arts from National Louis University.
