Mrs. Thompson’s broad skills with people and in business began in her early corporate career. As a human resources executive, Mrs. Thompson developed insight and practical business sense that have fostered achievement and pride in each school community she has served. Recruited from the corporate world to her new, fulfilling role in the BASIS Charter School network by her own daughter, a BASIS Charter School teacher, today she can’t imagine working anywhere else!
Since joining BASIS Charter Schools in 2013, Mrs. Thompson has been immersed in the BASIS Charter School Curriculum, particularly at the primary level, and has served as a much-loved Head of School in Arizona, Texas, and New York. She successfully opened BASIS Chandler Primary South, BASIS San Antonio, and BASIS Independent Brooklyn, as the inaugural Head of School, and joins us most recently from BASIS Phoenix Central, home to the Arts Element. She is committed to drawing on each school’s diverse and unique culture—the students, teachers, and families that make up each community—to strengthen and grow new schools.
Mrs. Thompson is thrilled to serve as Head of School at BASIS Austin Primary. She is dedicated to growing the BASIS Austin Primary community, and to inspiring a lifelong love of learning in your children.
Before joining BASIS Charter Schools in 2013, Dr. Richards served as Associate Dean of Academic Support with Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, as an Associate Professor of Naval Science at the University of Kansas, and as a high school NJROTC instructor.

He is a designated Naval Education and Training Management Specialist and holds a BS in Nuclear Engineering from University of Michigan, an M.Ed. in Vocational Education and an MPA from Valdosta State University, and an Ed.D. in Education Policy and Leadership from the University of Kansas.

Mrs. Yeung joined the BASIS network in 2017 after moving to Arizona from Northern Virginia. Prior to becoming Director of Primary Program for BASIS Austin Primary, Mrs. Yeung was the Dean of Students at BASIS Peoria Primary in Arizona. She earned her BA in English Literature and Secondary Education from Wheaton College. She then received her Masters in Social Work from the University of Connecticut School of Social Work. Mrs. Yeung has worked with countless children and families in both the foster care and mental health settings as a Clinical Social Worker for many years. She is now thrilled to be able to combine her background in Education and Social Work to provide the academic rigor and social/emotional support that BASIS Charter Schools excel at. It is Mrs. Yeung’s joy to see students engaged in their learning and social environment around them.
